Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is pervasive in Hong Kong. It refers to a spectrum of liver disorders ranging from accumulation of too much fat inside liver cells to fibrosis, cirrhosis, liver failure or liver cancer that is not due to alcohol consumption or other secondary causes.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a kind of fat and major component of cell walls bile and various hormones.

Intestinal metaplasia

Intestinal metaplasia occurs when cells in the tissues of the upper digestive tract, often in the stomach, change and become more like cells from the intestines.

Diabetes (Chinese version only)

Diabetes is an endocrine disease characterized by high level of blood sugar. The patient cannot secrete normally or cannot use insulin, which affects the regulation of blood sugar and makes blood sugar level too high.

Hepatitis B

For management of acute hepatitis, the patient should have adequate rest, balanced diet and avoid alcohol intake. Safer sex and practices to avoid transmission via blood contact should be encouraged. Chronic carriers should receive individualized medical care for chronic hepatitis B infection.
